The Hokey-Cokey Series on Giving
All do the Hokey-Cokey
This is a three week sermon series, which is unusual in our parish. We don't normally do sermon series.
We have had sermons which have focussed on giving, and we have heard about sermons focussing on giving, which tend to either make us feel guilty, or which seem totally unrealistic. Normally they focus on money - which is typical of the times we live in, or, arguably, typical of being human. Anyway, what have we given if we give all our money away? - only a fraction of ourselves.
We hope that by having a series on giving we will be able to have a far wider focus than the giving from our pockets, and be able to reflect on the giving from our hearts and the giving of our lives. The ground of our giving is God who, as we see in Jesus on the cross, is totally giving (yet Jesus never seems to have handled any money!).
