family History

According to Richard Todd, there are lots of sites to help with Family History research but they usually want your money.

www.familysearch.org is free and it has records from parish registers as well as Civil Registration stuff.  It is run by the Mormons and doesn't cover Cheshire all that well I am told.

www.fhsc.org.uk  is the Family History Society of Cheshire and anyone researching in Cheshire should look at their site and maybe join.  The site won a prize for the best site in the Federation of Family History Societies.  Have a look for yourself.

www.ancestry.co.uk  is an excellent site but it costs money. You can get a free trial for a fortnight (sometimes a month) but then it is £80 a year for unlimited access.  I think you can get a subscription for £10 a month.

www.genesreunited.co.uk claims to be good but you pay.  I don't know how much.

There was a site called www.1837online.co.uk but it changed its name and I forget what to.  It wasn't free but you only paid for items as you needed them although you had to buy credits in advance.

www.freebmd.org.uk isn't free totally but some bits are.
