Churchyard regulations

Visitors regularly commend the state of our churchyards at Tarvin and  Duddon. A lot of work goes into their upkeep and we are very grateful for the work of so many willing volunteers and the thoughtful support of those who use the churchyard.

From time to time we need to remind people of churchyard regulations. These are imposed by the Diocesan Registrar and they are intended to help with the maintenance of churchyards and with the particular problems which may be avoided with some forethought. Locally we try to grass graves over as soon as possible. Sometimes families do put plants on graves. Strictly speaking this is against the regulations but we accept that this "tending" can help the grieving process and is acceptable while the ground is settling. However, long term, this can cause problems and we strongly encourage families to have graves grassed within twelve months.
