THE BASICS OF CHRISTIANITY 1
Introduction
This account aims to set out the fundamentals of Christianity to help us to build on and enjoy our relationship with God
As the writers, we are simply putting this together - we do not know all the answers, or even all the questions of such a big story. We need you to give us feedback so hit the Contact Us button whenever you like, ask us or tell us whatever you want.
1. HOW DID IT ALL START?
Starting at the beginning, Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. A relationship with God. God started it. He wants a free relationship with his own people.
"Because God so loved the world..." John 3:16
The Old Testament, hugely simplified, can be seen as a parable showing us how that relationship can be brought into being. It shows that we can have a loving relationship with a father God if we choose. The Old Testament people made an agreement, called a covenant, with God. God set out the terms of the covenant:
"I will be your God if you will be my people."

The New Testament renews and completes this covenant and fulfils God's plan for us. He did it by sending us his son Jesus, the Christ, as a final and complete sacrifice for all the sins of all the world for ever. All we have to do is join the new covenant with God.
The following pages will tell us what this new covenant is and what it leads to. | |
